These new options are being tested by Amazon’s delivery hub in Hackney’s East London area. They are joining Amazon’s steadily growing fleet of electric vans as they work towards the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2040.
Amazon’s new delivery options should also help reduce the cost of transporting parcels to Londoners. New vans and electric bikes are exempt from London congestion charges. This is the fee paid by the driver unless the vehicle meets certain low emissions standards.
The trial is still in its infancy, but Amazon isn’t moving around. There are already plans to open an additional electric bike delivery hub in the near future, with plans to roll out a new Rivian electric van in the United States by the end of 2022.
