Over the years, we’ve introduced a number of tags and tag attributes to Google sitemap extensions, especially image and video extensions. Most of these tags have been added to make it easier for site owners to deliver data to searches.
After assessing the value of the Google Sitemap extension tags, we decided to officially abolish some tags and attributes and remove them from the documentation. Deprecated tags will not affect indexing and search capabilities after August 6, 2022.
If you are a sitemap plugin developer or have your own sitemap, you don’t need to take immediate action. You can leave these tags and attributes in place without any problems. In the future, if these updates are included in the next schema version of the image and video extension, you may see a warning in the search console.
The following tags and attributes are affected.
We hope that simplifying the sitemap extension will also reduce the complexity of the codebase. Site maps are generally organized. If you have any questions or comments, check the sitemap documentation or
