Moog’s holiday deals include free new effects plug-in

Moog’s holiday promotions this year include one particularly nice bonus: it’s free. Synthesizer pioneer released A free new MF-109S Saturator plugin (shown above) for all Moogerfooger Effects Plugins users. As the name suggests, the plugin gives you more control over the input driver circuitry to produce everything from analog saturation to smooth compression. It also amplifies the Minimoog Model D’s noise generator circuitry by controlling it through a type of switchable filter.

You’ll need the Moogerfooger Effects Plugins to get the MF-109S, but the bundle retails for $149 (normally $249) at the time of this writing. Works with common plug-in formats such as AudioUnits, ProTools AAX and VST3 on Macs and Windows PCs.

If you prefer to buy full-fledged creative software, don’t worry – Moog has deals here too. The company is once again offering 50 percent off its iOS and Mac software, including the Animoog Z wavetable synthesis app (15 dollars to unlock), Minimoog Model D (15 dollars) and Model 15 (plus $15). This isn’t Moog’s first discount on its apps this year, but you might not mind if you’re hoping to add classic synth sounds to your music repertoire.

Even if the bonus is not a draw, it may be worth investing in the Moogerfooger effects set. We were impressed with the plugins when we tried it out in October. You can produce subtle results if you want, but they are at their best when you switch to the foreign side – with the right tweaks, even a simple piece can stand out. A feast for musicians who respect analog synthesis but don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on old gear.
