The original creator of Ms. Marvel revealed that she is sympathetic to fans who are angry with the character’s psychic powers modified for her Marvel TV show.
Talk to Entertainment WeeklySana Amanat, one of the five cartoonists who developed Kamala Khan, admitted that fans of Pakistani-American superheroes are dissatisfied with the move. However, Amanato needed a change to the live-action version of Ms. Marvel, suggesting how her story fits into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In comics, Khan gains power after being exposed to a substance called terrigen mist. As a result, the inhuman’s dormancy ability is unleashed, allowing him to grow (and grow) in size and height. This is a process called envision. Alternatively, change your body composition to fit in a small space. Ms. Marvel also has superhuman power, speed, durability, enhanced healing factors, and bioluminescence.
Fans were thrilled to see Marvel bring Khan’s unique power to the MCU. But many remained discouraged and angry when the first trailer for the Disney + show revealed that Khan’s abilities derive from the magical bracelet she found.
In response to fans’ disappointment with the move, Amanat said he was familiar with the backlash caused by the move. But to appease long-time Ms Marvel fans, Amanat explained that the Marvel Phase 4 project and Ms Marvel themselves need to be changed to feel rooted in the expanding MCU. Not only that, Amanat suggested that by changing the story of Ms. Marvel’s origins, her MCU Ark could be seamlessly adapted to the next Marvel movie in which Khan participates.
“I thought it was important to make sure that her power was linked to the bigger story of the Marvel Universe,” Amanat said. “After this series, she wanted to talk a little more. Obviously, she goes into Marvels. [movie, which arrives in July 2023]..
“Power looks different, but it’s very controversial. People know it’s like” dare to change power! “I know people are angry with it, but I talked to Inception, and G. Willow, probably as one of the closest people to this character. [Wilson, Ms Marvel’s co-creator] Again, Willow and I would have always felt this made sense. This was the right move as there is a bigger story. “
Elaborating on the changes in the superpower, Amanato confirmed that fans could see Ms. Marvel’s Bigen power in the Disney Plus series, even if they weren’t derived from the Terigen Mist.
“I don’t want to be too spoiled about how she uses her power, but they are fun and elastic,” she added. “At the same time, the essence of the power of comics is there from both a figurative and visual perspective. We are doing an ambiguous fist. We have the elements that make her feel and show. I’m doing it. It’s a little crazy, but it’s really cool. I think people are familiar with it, but at the same time it’s different in a fresh and unique way. “
Analysis: Marvel continues to attack
Amanat is not the first individual to explain why Ms. Marvel’s change in power is behind. At the beginning of May, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said: Empire Magazine A change was needed to make the character fit into a particular part of the MCU.
“We adapt the comics. It’s not an exact translation,” Feige said. “”[Kamala] It happened at a very specific time in the continuity of comic books. She is now entering a very specific time in the continuity of the MCU. And these two things didn’t match.
“What we learn about where these forces come from and how they occur is unique to the MCU.” Some of our action sequences have a great cartoon splash panel. If you need big and huge hands and arms, it’s mentally here, if not the elastic plastic type method. “
Despite Fage and Amanat’s defense, certain sections of Ms. Marvel’s fan base are not yet convinced.
Taking Reddit, some fans believe that the decision was made to allow Ms. Marvel to play. The role of Captain Marvel’s “Little Buddy” At The Marvels in 2023, others “make creative changes”I like to play Superman, but he’s not from Krypton. Also, it’s a suit he can fly and get stronger“For others, the power of Ms. Marvel Seems to be a metaphor for how the body changes throughout pubertyAnd removing that aspect of her MCU origin story is a failure on Marvel’s side.
However, some fans are participating in the change in Khan’s power. Some have suggested that Amanato is okay with the changes.feel safe“Others are commenting on them I wasn’t bothered by the switch If that means that other aspects of Marvel’s personality have been retained. Even G. Willow Wilson has expressed concern ( polygon) How Marvel Studios adapts the power of Khan’s stretchy style to the live-action version of the character.
It’s understandable why Marvel made this decision. If the studio feels fit to the story of Ms. Marvel’s MCU, it’s definitely a small amount to pay to help the audience understand her role in the wider universe. Most MCU viewers aren’t cartoon fans either, so many aren’t completely aware that Ms. Marvel’s origin story has changed.
That said, fans have the right to complain to those who consider it an unnecessary change. Kahn may not be as well known (at least among casual Marvel fans) as Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man. But what if any of their abilities or stories of origin change due to the introduction of the MCU? Will fans be pleased, or does Marvel need to protect himself from those valid questions?
It can be difficult for fans to swallow, but Marvel Studios is working on this move. If her Inhumans have been introduced to the MCU, Khan’s power may change subtly to match the origin of her own Inhumans comics. But until such a time comes, we need to get used to Ms Marvel’s fine-tuned abilities, regardless of our feelings about the subject.
