Is Apple Watch waterproof? Simply put, although not completely, most models are water resistant, so they can be exposed to or submerged in water to a certain depth without damage. With a level of water resistance, it’s a good idea to know exactly how the watch is rated before jumping into the pool or hot tub.
The good news for Apple Watch owners is that the days of letting the rain destroy your expensive Apple product are over. Even the oldest Apple Watch offers some protection from moisture, and each watch comes with a rating that indicates how much water it can handle.
If you’re thinking of buying a new Apple Watch and plan to soak in the tub, swim, or even play sports in the ocean, read on to find out how you can get your new Apple Watch to work. Make sure it can handle a lot of activity and depth. Remember, Apple’s warranty doesn’t typically cover water damage. That’s why it’s essential to pay attention to the water resistance rating (unless, of course, you’re looking to get a new watch).

Notes on water resistance
Unlike most electronic devices, including iPhones, iPads, and all other tablets and smartphones, Apple watches do not use IP water resistance ratings. Instead, it uses the standard rating method for watches based on depth.
But just because it’s rated for, say, 50 meters doesn’t mean you should bring it anywhere near 50 meters. This means that in lab tests it was able to withstand the amount of pressure detected at that depth (approximately 4.5 times the surface amount)
But there’s no reason to test it yourself given that it can damage the watch outside of the Apple Watch Ultra, which was designed with divers in mind. If so, is it something that doubles as a dive computer, like the Ultra mentioned above? garmin descent (opens in new tab).
It’s also important to know that the Apple Watch is generally not designed to withstand repeated high-energy impacts. Jumping into the pool or ocean is fine, but don’t wear them for extreme sports like water skiing or surfing. It might be fine for a few times, but too many high-velocity impacts can start to compromise its waterproofness and eventually damage the watch.
