A standing desk is about to change my life. Or at least, that’s what I’m sure of now after using several over the past six months and experiencing all the benefits I previously dismissed because I was skeptical.
Like many others, I started working from home permanently at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had a devastating effect on my health as a result. Due to local mandates to stay indoors, my previous routine of running 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) to the gym near my office each morning disappeared overnight.
My morning commute was replaced by a short shuffle from my bedroom to a small table in another room.
This dramatic change in lifestyle has caused me to gain a whopping 19 kg in the last 20 months, affecting my joints and overall health, making me feel older than I am.
I’m not entirely blameless for my own situation, but as a full-time telecommuter, I have had to find flexible solutions and not have to go back to the formerly strenuous gym any time soon to improve my health and fitness. I began to consider ways to gradually improve my level.Routine.
A few months ago, I found this video on my TikTok account. walking worker (opens in new tab) One woman revealed she was able to walk 20 miles a day (approximately 20 miles) thanks to her purchase of a standing desk converter and an under-desk walking treadmill. I use these two in combination for meetings and checking emails. I was completely floored and immediately sold the idea.
