Sticker shock
Previous Threadripper Pro, 3995WX, Released in July 2020And carried a suggested retail price of only $ 5,500.
The price increase did not involve twice the number of cores (as in the previous generation), probably because the application targeted by ThreadRipper Pro does not take full advantage of 128 cores (or 256 threads). This is an exclusive right to the EPYC series for cloud computing, hyperscalers and data centers.
The 5995WX has a base speed of 2.7GHz, a 256MB L3 cache, and supports up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes. It has a TDP of 280W and a maximum clock speed of 4.5GHz, which is the same for all new Threadripper Pro processors.
You should be able to host new parts using a motherboard with a WRX80 chipset and sWRX8 socket. Please note that you may need to update the firmware. The same applies to existing workstations.
